House is a swing group that performs
classic jazz. With a 4 to 7 piece band and harmony vocals, they bring
to the listener the sounds of the Prohibition Years and beyond; Big Band, Dixieland, Swing, Blues, Ballads,
Latin and Jazz Standards - music from the heart of the 20th century.
The band's instrumentation includes Jazz Violin, Sax & Clarinet, Trumpet, Guitar, Bass and Drums. The
influence of Count Basie, Bennie Goodman, Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelly, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller,
Roy Eldridge, Lester Young, Louis Jordan, Cootie Williams, Joe Venuti, Coleman Hawkins, Artie Shaw and Louis
Armstrong is evident in the band's swinging style.
Songstress Elizabeth's vocal style recalls Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole and Lee Wiley. The
group's vocal harmonies bring to mind the Mills Brothers, Boswell Sisters, Andrew's Sisters, Ink Spots and the
rarely heard Cats and the Fiddle.
The many great songs that make up our repertoire are from the best: the Gershwins, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern,
Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Ellington/Strayhorn, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, Johnny Mercer, Lerner and
Loewe, Vernon Duke, Jimmy Van Heusen, Sy Oliver et al.
Hot House has been performing throughout the Western States for more than 20 years. In their singing you'll
hear echoes of the great vocal groups of the past; their instrumental sound harkens back to the small combos
that lit up the Swing Era and they dress the part in authentic 1940's attire. Size variability and pianoless
instrumentation easily works with any event. The dedication and musicianship of the bandmembers ensures a top
notch performance guaranteed to please every audience.
In the wise words of the Mills Brothers - Swing is the Thing!
